The talks between the House Speaker, John Boehner, and President Obama, to raise the debt ceiling along with sweeping spending cuts and tax and entitlement reform have broken down. There will be no "grand bargain" to deal with the debt crisis and raise the debt ceiling. Boehner's decision to abandon negotiations with President Obama puts an end to a deal that would have cut spending by up to $3.5 trillion over the next 10 years and increased tax revenues by close to a trillion dollars. But the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling must be raised by Aug. 2nd to avoid a government default.
"We have now run out of time," declared a visibly angry Obama at a press conference held at the White House.
BO has summoned Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to the White House for an emergency meeting at 11am on Saturday. Both sides agree that a proposal should be hammered out over the weekend. Talks now begin between Boehner and senate leaders on a far less ambitious "Plan B."
Boehner held his own press conference Friday night and said the talks broke down because "The White House moved the goal posts." Imagine that! BO and his gang of Democrats would never change their tune would they? After scaring old folks and the poor people who live off the government? Surely they would change the goals. Boehner said the two sides had agreed on an unspecified amount of revenue to be included in deficit reduction, achieved by broadening the number of Americans who pay taxes and lowering general tax rates. But he said President Obama on Thursday demanded another $400 billion in revenue, which Boehner said "was going to be nothing more than a tax hike on the American people."
It was clear that Boehner and Cantor were ready to accept up to $800 billion in revenue measures as part of a "grand bargain." But when that number jumped, due to pressures from Democrats, the talks broke down. I guess Nancy Pelosi didn't want her Democratic cronies in any way making any deals with the Republicans, DAMN the financial health of the country. That woman could care less if it really did mean the troops wouldn't be paid, hell, she was against the wars anyway, they were Bush's wars not hers (I would love to know why she supports BO's war in Lybia).
This crap has gone too far. The Federal government HAS to STOP the over-spending or we are going to get to the point where we will have to default because we will not be able to even pay intrest payments. When it takes $4 trillion dollars to run a country, then something is definitely wrong. I keep saying we could save billions by bringing our troops home. We have done what we went for, Hussien and bin Laden are both dead. And we are no longer wanted in the Middle East. If we pulled all our troops out of the Middle East the Muslim terrorists will calm down.
In a letter sent to his Republican colleagues, Boehner, explained his decision to pull out of talks for a "grand bargain." Here are the highlights:
"It has become evident that the White House is not serious about ending the spending binge that is destroying jobs and endangering our children's future, A deal was never reached, and was never really close.
"The president is emphatic that taxes have to be raised. ... The president is emphatic that we cannot make fundamental changes to our entitlement programs."
"For these reasons, I have decided to end discussions with the White House and begin conversations with the leaders in the Senate in an effort to find a path forward."
Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell had been working on a backup, failsafe proposal until this week, when hopes for a "grand bargain" were rekindled. But, a senior GOP aide said that the Reid-McConnell proposal, would have given the president carte blanche to raise the debt ceiling, but it would not reform entitlements, the tax code, or cut nearly enough spending, and will not be the final product.
That would be great....give BO an open checkbook, hell we would be supporting the entire African continent, while people here in OUR country have been forced to steal from farmers and get killed while in the act of stealing copper to survive (neither of which I endorse in any way, I actually think they should be shot or electrocuted while performing these acts of theft), but, we keep borrowing money, it makes no sense to me.
And , as no surprise, after BO's press conference, his frustration was apparent, the press secretary for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Brad Daysrping, tweeted that president Obama threw a tantrum:
"As if there's really a question whether President Obama threw a tantrum at the White House last week - same guy just appeared." What a freaking cry baby. Wonder how the Democrats really feel about him, you know none would ever come out and denounce the actions of their party leader, as that would be political suicide. They have to be thinking "Did we choose the right person for the job?" I mean, come on, how in the world could you support a man like this whois managing to run OUR country in the ground. The US, once the greatest country on earth, is now laughed at by the world. We look like a big fool to the rest of the world, as we are nothing but the world police department. And this "World Police Department" is like the police of the 1930's Chicago.
Oh well, what do I know I am just a weirdo...
